Rod Mills

Rod mills are very similar to ball mills as grinding mills but instead of using steel or metal balls to achieve mining ore reduction these machines use high carbon steel rods that can vary in length and diameter. Rod mills are used for grinding ore, coal/coke, and other materials for both wet and dry applications. Like ball mills, rod mills can be used to grind mining ore down into fine powders during the secondary grinding stage. At AM King we feature a wide selection of high quality, durable rod mills including top brand name manufacturer Marcy.

Rod mills, also known as rod-mill sand-making machines, are a mineral processing machine for milling the materials into powders after they are crushed. Rod mills are mainly used for processing and crushing such ore and raw materials as feldspar, quartz and other materials. Rod mills can be operated at lower peripheral speeds than ball mills which make rod mills more energy-efficient. Rod mills also feature less void space, lower steel consumption and because of the higher weight of the steel rods are more suited to breaking down large mining ore. Rod mills are also easy to maintain since broken or worn rods are easy to remove and replace.

Benefits to using a rod mill for grinding mining ore include an internal feed pocket that permits coarser pieces to toll down to the toe of the rodload where it can be absorbed; less change of tangling or jamming due to the sloping head hitting misaligned rods as the mill rotates urging the rods back into place; minimized wear on head liners and ample space in the rod mill to assist in inspecting and sorting out broken rods.
