Used Jaw Crushers
One of the main types of primary crushers in a mine or ore processing plant are jaw crushers. Often of a square or rectangular variety, jaw crushers are used to reduce large rocks and other mining ore for disposal or to reduce the size of raw materials before differentiating between compositions. Also known as a toggle crusher, used jaw crushers will feature a set of vertical jaws, one that is fixed and the other that moves back and forth relative to it by a cam or pitman mechanism. Falling down a tapered chute, the mining ore is gradually reduced by the crushing mechanism until the pieces are small enough to fit through the opening at the bottom.
Used jaw crushers are primarily used for heavy mining, quarried materials, sand and gravel and recycling. Also known as rock and stone crushers, jaw crushers are ideal for large mining ore including large rocks and use compression to reduce the rocks into pieces small enough to fit through the sizing gap. If you are in the market for a used jaw crusher there are some important things to keep in mind before purchasing a crushing machine.
First is to know what application the jaw crusher was used for. If the crusher was used to crush limestone instead of granite chances are the components will be in better shape since it is easier to crush limestone than it is granite. Though jaw crushers are built to withstand heavy use even well-made machines will wear down under heavy stress. Another good idea is to research the maintenance program the previous owner had since this will let you know what type of preventive maintenance and repairs were done to the jaw crusher. Also check the gap between the jaw plates and the sides of the main frame to make sure it is equal. If not it can be an indication of excessive wear inside the eccentric housing. Lastly look for excessive wear on any parts including jaw plates, cheek plates, toggle seats and the grooves on the flywheel since these components are essential to the operation of a jaw crusher and if any piece is showing signs of wear it may need to be replaced.
