Due to the cancelled projects for previous downturns in the mining markets and the current pandemic, there are billions of dollars in unused surplus assets sitting in warehouses at shipping hubs and mine sites around the world.
While the effect on the supply chain resonates globally due to the pandemic, A.M. King Industries has over $800 million in unused equipment that can be shipped and commissioned immediately.
This ‘available now’ equipment can help mining companies take advantage of the high metal prices, reduce capital costs, and mitigate risk of any delivery delays.
A.M. King, one of the largest brokers of pre-owned processing and mining equipment, has been providing mining process solutions for clients and end users worldwide for nearly 40 years, starting in dismantling of complete process plants and expanding to buying, selling and shipping.
A.M. King’s goal is to repurpose unused assets purchased by customers from supplier giants like Metso Outotec, FLSmidth and others. A.M. King purchases from and sells to some of the largest mining companies in the world including Rio Tinto, Barrick, Newmont, Freeport-McMoRan and many others.
“Our team has been buying, refurbishing and reselling Allis Chalmers and grinding mills, Marcy ball mills, the indestructible Symons Nordberg cone crushers of all sizes, Kue Ken jaw crushers, Traylor gyratory crushers, OK 38 Float cells, Svedala Rod Mills and a myriad of other legacy brands,” says Albert King Jr., CEO of the family-run company.
“These suppliers of machinery have pioneered some of the most durable and long lasting equipment that was ever made. These designs are still at the foundation of the industry. The quality of this equipment allows them to run for decades.
The majority of A.M. King’s unused inventory is in its original packaging, has never been installed, and sits in storage in warehouses because it was ordered, but never left the shipping dock because the end project was delayed or cancelled somewhere along the way, in most cases due to permitting issues or political turmoil.
“There are many projects that due to their scope and size may not benefit from surplus equipment, but for those that can, surplus equipment can help reduce costs and mitigate any risks of delayed delivery,” says Vice President, Albert King III.
King says the availability of this inventory could catalyze mine plans, especially as engineering firms use equipment availability in proposals as they scope projects worldwide to increase project NPV and make more projects economically viable, creating more jobs and more installation and spare parts orders for manufacturers, putting their equipment back into service. In addition to the US, A.M. King Industries has supply hubs and sales representatives in Belgium, France, Australia, Philippines, South American, Mexico and Canada.
Guaranteed and swift delivery could generate significant capital savings, and the product has already been tested and quality assured – and is ready to be physically inspected.
“During the manufacturing process of a massive grinding mill it’s possible to spend half a year manufacturing one of the main components, and they could turn out to be unusable – it’s potential for loss or delay to the project,” King explains.
A.M. King’s unused equipment has already been quality control approved by the manufacturer and the end user benefits from an organized, efficient, transparent system.
While their reach is global, A.M. King has a network of local equipment dealers, and a global sales network of hundreds feeding inventory.
A.M. King strives to create a transparent marketplace where buyers and sellers can transact on major equipment with confidence.
King emphasizes that because they are recycling assets only, the company is not adding to the environmental footprint, but rather is helping to use what is already exists in the market.
A.M. King CEO, Albert King Jr. stated, “I’ve been thrilled to watch A.M. King expand in the past 10 years to work with both junior and major mining companies and the engineering companies around the world that support them. Our team now supplies both used and unused equipment and puts the equipment back into operation – benefiting the OEMs and the mining companies.”
“Surplus unused equipment makes projects financially viable and able to get off the ground – and it puts people back to work in idle plants that have not been able to buy an entirely new package of equipment.”
